As of December 16, 2019, certain carriers and commercial drivers are required to use electronic logging devices (ELDs) to record their hours of service (HoS). This mandate is designed to increase driver safety by ensuring accurate record keeping. Specifically, by preventing sleep-deprived drivers from being assigned trips and possibly falling asleep at the wheel, which is dangerous for everyone on the road.
