California ELD rule (starts January 2024)
Instead of allowing drivers to record their hours of service (HoS) using paper logs, California will adopt the FMCSA’s electronic logging device (ELD) rule—with important differences, including exemptions.
Clean Truck Check program (also starts January 2024)
The California Air Resources Board (CARB) will start enforcing its Clean Truck Check program for drayage trucks such as Class 8 big rigs. Periodic vehicle testing will be combined with emissions monitoring and enforcement to identify vehicles that need emissions-related repairs—and ensure repairs are made.
