Zonar recognizes National School Bus Safety Week by providing a printable checklist for families and students to keep them safe on the school bus
Seattle Wash. - October 22, 2018 - Each October, the National Association for Pupil Transportation (NAPT) hosts National School Bus Safety Week – five days dedicated to highlighting the importance of school bus safety among parents, school officials and motorists. In celebration of this year's theme, "My Driver - My Safety Hero!," Zonar, the leader in smart fleet management technology, developed an easy-to-follow printable checklist for families and students to help keep them safe while on the school bus.
Each day school bus drivers transport nearly 26 million students1 and play an undeniably important role in ensuring the nation’s children get to school and home safely. But the drivers need support, and both parents and children have a role to play in helping their bus drivers keep all passengers safe while on the road.
"Being a school bus driver is a rewarding but incredibly tough job," says Kevin Mest, senior vice president & general manager of passenger services at Zonar. "They're charged with keeping our children safe while on the road so it's up to parents to work with their kids to follow simple steps before, during and after a bus ride, making it easy for drivers to protect and transport their passengers. Student management becomes a safety issue as it distracts the driver’s attention."
Parents and children can find the downloadable guide here.
Zonar creates technology solutions that collect and analyze data from a wide-variety of vehicles including trucks, school buses and construction equipment. This information empowers drivers and fleet managers with the data and analysis needed to better navigate any route and safely manage passengers. Zonar technology is on over 180,000 school buses nation-wide, helping school districts bolster and improve the safety of school bus passengers, providing parents peace-of-mind by ensuring they know where their children are while on the road.
Earlier this year, Zonar partnered with Child Check-Mate to provide schools with a child safety alert system, ensuring no child is left on a vehicle accidentally. They’ve also partnered with NAPT to sponsor the annual Don Carnahan Memorial Grant, offering up to $50,000 worth of industry-leading technology hardware that improves the safety, effectiveness and efficiency of pupil transportation programs in the United States and Canada. Winners of the grant will be announced on October 29, 2018 at the NAPT Conference & Trade Show.
